Microsoft is planning to deliver even more updates to the Microsoft Copilot for Windows with version 24H2, starting with moving the Copilot button itself to the far right corner of the Taskbar. The Copilot button is now on the far right of the Taskbar. Windows 11 version 24H2: Microsoft Copilot These PCs have powerful NPUs that will take advantage of new AI features that haven't yet been announced, although Microsoft has teased them. This release will be the one that powers up next-gen AI PCs, some of which have already been announced and will start shipping as soon as next month. However, the version 24H2 update won't be made generally available to existing Windows 11 users until September at the earliest when the update is deemed fully ready. ![]() Some next-gen AI PCs will begin shipping with version 24H2 preloaded as early as June. This is only possible when the platform release doesn't change between versions.Īll this is to say version 24H2 won't begin shipping until the second half of 2024. This is different from version 23H2, which was applied by servicing the existing OS install. ![]() An OS swap update is that is applied by replacing the entire OS with a newer version. Once that's done, work will begin on "finalizing" the version 24H2 update, which will be built on the signed-off Germanium platform build.Ī new release of the Windows platform means the update will be installed using the "OS swap" method. Microsoft intends to sign off on the new Windows platform release (called Germanium) in April. You can use alternative themes such as the Mac theme for Windows 8, or the Mac Light theme for Windows 8.Because version 24H2 will be based on a new version of the Windows platform, there are multiple development milestones between now and the general availability of the version 24H2 update. Update: The Mac OS X theme for Windows 8 appears to be no longer available. I had a few usability issues when I tested it and decided to uninstall it rather quickly again. If you ask me, I'm not a fan of total conversions as they are never as good as the original. ![]() The Mountain Lion theme for Windows 8 may not be after everyone's liking, but those who want to give it a try benefit from the straightforward installation and uninstallation of the total conversion. When I uninstalled the skin pack, only the top position of the Windows Taskbar was not changed by the process, but it took less than ten seconds to move it back into its bottom position. You can uninstall the Mac OS X skin pack like any other application on the system, and you end up with pretty much the same system as before. The Windows taskbar for instance is moved to the top of the screen, while the dock is listed at the bottom of the screen. Pure Windows users on the other hand may need some time getting used to the skin as it changes several interface elements significantly. If you are used to work with Mac OS X you will probably feel right at home. The log in screen looks identical, but the rest of the operating system will look more or less like a copy of the Mac OS X Mountain Lion operating system. You end up with more than ten different programs, including popular applications such as Rocket Dock, Xwidget or Moveex. For the best user experience it is however suggested to keep the default configuration. The installer gives you the option to uncheck third party programs from being installed. Just follow the installation instructions and restart the computer afterwards. The rest of the installation is straightforward and very comfortable. You should pay attention to the installation process as you may end up otherwise with the Babylon Toolbar. This should not be an issue though as support for it is integrated natively into Windows 8. The full download has a size of about 35 Megabytes and you need to know that some of the programs that it will install require the Microsoft. The Mountain Lion skin pack comes with a single installer for 32-bit or 64-bit editions of Windows that will do all the installing and configuring for you. What makes this total conversion interesting is that it does not require you to patch system files by yourself or to prepare the operating system in another way.
